BBVA Compass bank is partnering with the Internet site SmartyPig to offer online savings accounts that enable consumers to save for specific goals, such as cars, weddings, vacations and holidays.
The concept is similar to an online piggy bank, except SmartyPig's online savings accounts offer family, friends and others a chance to contribute directly via more than 100 social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, said Mike Ferrari, co-founder and chief operating officer of the website.
